Providing Round Rock With Cleaner, Safer Air Since 2005

At Texas AC & Plumbing Specialist, we’re committed to providing our customers whole-house comfort. In addition to ensuring that your property remains the perfect temperature, we’re also concerned with the quality of the air you breathe. In fact, according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the air within your home or business can be up to 100 times more polluted than the air outside. To ensure that you’re breathing clean, fresh air, our Austin indoor air quality experts will design a customized solution to meet your home or business’ specific needs.

In addition to being a locally owned and operated company, we have 15 years of HVAC experience and all of our technicians are fully insured and certified. We stand behind our work so much so that we offer both a lifetime and customer satisfaction guarantee.

What Affects Your Indoor Air

As much as we wish keeping our doors and windows closed means the air within our home will stay clean, this is unfortunately not the case.

The three causes of contaminated indoor air include:

  • Volatile organic compounds (VOCs): The EPA defines volatile organic compounds as any gases that solids or liquids produce. However, these gases contain a variety of chemicals known to cause adverse health effects. Examples of VOCs include carbon monoxide, exhaust, aerosol products, pesticides, repellants, air fresheners, paints or other solvents, permanent markers, craft materials, and certain building materials.
  • Particulates: Although it’s gross to think about, we continuously shed skin cells, which creates dander. And if you have pets, their dander gets released into the air too. This is especially harmful to those who have severe allergies or respiratory conditions. Dust and pollen can also get inside your home and circulate throughout your air.
  • Biological contaminants: Any time you have excess moisture or water in the air, mold or mildew can grow. It can grow within your ductwork too, which makes it even harder to notice and easier to spread. Additionally, any bacteria or viruses can circulate within your indoor air, causing you to get sick.

The First Step to Clean Air Is Source Removal

While it’s easy to blame other factors, the reality is that our heating and cooling systems are often the largest culprits when it comes to poor indoor air quality. Leaky ducts, dirty filters, and lack of proper ventilation all contribute to your building depressurizing and the ability for outside air, attic air, and gases to enter your property through the slab. As this air, which contains VOCs, dust, mold, pollen, and other harmful pollutants circulates throughout your home, it not only reduces your indoor air quality, but it also reduces energy efficiency and increases your utility bills.

The first step towards cleaner, safer air is to remove some of the sources of such contaminants.

Ventilation to Improve Indoor Air Quality

Regardless of the type of heating or cooling system you own, including forced air heating systems, many do not automatically bring fresh air from outside into your home or business. At Texas AC & Plumbing Specialist, our Austin indoor air quality specialists recommend utilizing natural forms of ventilation in addition to mechanical forms. When the weather permits, we suggest that you open windows and doors or operate window or attic fans. We can also assist you with the installation of a ventilation control system. These appliances monitor a number of factors, such as indoor and outdoor temperatures, humidity levels, and your HVAC system’s current operation. Ventilation control systems also ensure that you have a steady flow of fresh air without impacting your heating or cooling system’s function.

The Importance of Air Filtration

Air filtration is a highly effective way of improving your indoor air quality. While many air handlers and systems come with filters, they aren’t as efficient as the types of filters that our Austin indoor air quality experts can install. With the addition of a HEPA filter, you can remove as much as 99.9% of all pollutants 0.3 microns or larger. If you wish to also rid your home of unwanted odors, a charcoal filter is a great option. For maximum coverage, we recommend combining these two types of filters.

Air Purification Systems

Our indoor air purification systems use advanced UV or Photohydroionization (PHI) technology that can minimize and neutralize indoor air pollutants such as bacteria, viruses, or mold in or passing through your HVAC system to help control the spread of contaminents. These purification systems are powerful enough to improve the air quality in your entire home and are an affordable option to help keep your family healthy. These solutions are noted by the Environmental Protection Agency as successful tools to help treat indoor air.

If you would like more information regarding ways you can improve your indoor air quality, we are happy to schedule an in home assessment. When we arrive at your property, we will discuss your needs with you and inspect your current heating and/or cooling system to determine which products would work best without reducing any airflow within your home or business.
